It has been a week since the opening of POMPOMPURIN cafe in Singapore! Have anyone of you check out this new F&B outlet yet? I heard from many friends that a long queue has been forming everyday since its opening. hahaha I am kinda blessed to be invited to the media preview of the cafe. SO yay to avoiding the queue. But of cos I am not here to 晒命 (show off in Cantonese), just like to share how kawaii (adorable in Japanese) this cafe is.
So who is POMPOMPURIN?
Pompompurin is actually a golden retriever dog character created by Sanrio in 1996. This good natured golden retriever dog with his trademark brown beret has been twice voted as the Most Popular Sanrio Character in Strawberry News, a magazine published by Sanrio.
Every POMPOMPURIN Cafe in the world takes on a different theme that suits the local likes and culture. Singapore being a garden city, it is almost no brainer to guess that the concept for POMPOMPURIN Cafe Singapore is based on a “Garden City” theme. The 1,900 sqf cafe has a total seating capacity for 78 pax and there are also four 4-seater booths “Tomodachi House” (Friends House in Japanese) featuring Purin’s friends – Bagel the Squirrel, Coconut the Monkey, Mint the Frog and Macaroon the Golden Retriever.
Meticulous care were put into every nook and cranny of the cafe. You can even spot POMPOMPURIN lamps in the cafe.
POMPOMPURIN fans would be elated to know that there are heaps of adorable POMPOMPURIN merchandise available for sale as well.
Food and beverage here are also based on POMPOMPURIN theme such as the POMPOMPURIN’s Coconut Milk Chicken Curry (S$17.99) and Spaghetti Napolitana (S$26.99).
We have also tried POMPOMPURIN’s Banana & Caramel Pancake (S$16.99), I am Purin♪ Pompompurin Pudding (S$9.99) and POMPOMPURIN’s Mango Parfait (S$19.99). The food and desserts here are really too kawaii.
I guess this is the kind of place that you will bring your first date to, especially if she is a fan of POMPOMPURIN. There are many photo-worthy spots and I am quite sure that the instagram- worthy POMPOMPURIN-inspired dishes would bring a smile to her face. Although the food is not fantastic, the kawaii ambience sure makes up for any shortfall. Do note that there are no takeaway service or table reservations available so best to go during off peak hours?
